David is Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences based at the University of Leeds in the UK. His interest is cellular calcium homeostasis and particularly the idea that mechanisms of calcium entry extend beyond voltage-gated calcium channels to other calcium-permeable channels, mediating responses to important chemical and mechanical stimuli in cardiovascular and metabolic biology. His group contributed knowledge especially on TRPC´s, ORAI1 and PIEZO1 channels.
